From Fires to Floods

Good Morning - We find ourselves in Portland Oregon this dreary Tuesday but the spirits on Chapel Hill are high. Amtrak advised us late yesterday that our route has once agan been changed. Amtrak is still experincing flooding issues in North Dakota and all train service from Portland to Whitefish have been suspended. The Canadians are blowing up their dams and substanial flooding is expected. The Chapel Hill will be departing later today for our second trip to Seattle where we will add additional rare track mileage...We depart Wednesday for Whitefish, MT and Glacier National Park. We have altered our stay in Whitefish to maintain guest flight schedules. Good news is we are still on the move the bad news is we will be missing a few passengers due to scheduling and flight constraints.

We are looking forward to watching the 4449 leave the station this morning but she too is missing a few cars. Several cars that made the trip to the West Coast were not able to get into Portland due to Amtrak equipment shortages. We had the opportunity to meet and talk with several of those guest the past couple days and I am sure they are not too happy. We will post these photos of the 4449 leaving later this afternoon.

Stay tuned because we have no idea what happens once we arrive in Whitefish....
