Rerouted on the Chapel HIll
We're back again, reporting to you live from Albuquerque, NM, inside the Chapel Hill.
We woke up today and realized we had no idea where we were.... overnight, the train was rerouted due to fires on the Raton Pass. We were now in Oklahoma and heading to Texas...we passed through Amarillo and saw lots of cattle at the Hereford Roping Center. We headed due west, to New Mexico, through Clovis. The scenery became a little more exciting in NM, and we saw more cattle, plus some llamas and antelopes.
We'll be back with more information and pictures, to give you an idea of our surroundings on this adventure!

We have discovered a new group on people on this trip - loyal followers of cars like the Chapel Hill. They find out what route we are taking, and they travel to various points along the rail to see us and take pictures. We've seen people come out in the Chicago suburbs, Missouri and Kansas. Outside of Chicago, a man and his two sons came out to see us and take pictures.
Our most interesting fans so far were discovered somewhere between Lawrence, KS and Topeka, KS. During a stop, there was a car filled with people that were armed with Glow Sticks - waving them furiously at us. We told them we wanted the glowsticks - one said no, but another one ran over to us to give us the stick. As he passed the stick to us, he said "We'll see you at the next stop!" Sure enough, about 30 minutes later they had caught up to us to see us pass by, waving their glow sticks at us again in excitement....
More to come in a little bit - we are on the train all day today!

Keyless and Clueless
We experienced our first train experience last night... and folks, this is a good one.
It all began with wanting to see the "hump tower" in Queensgate. By the time the car arrived to Queensgate and was attached to Amtrak, it was 3:45 am. Upon departure from Queensgate, it was noted that we would pass through Woodlawn and Glendale. Well, many cocktails into the night, the decision was made to stay up and see Glendale Square from the train.
Once through Glendale, we discovered we would pass through Hamilton and Oxford, Ohio. Another chance to see some of our stomping grounds! Once through Oxford, we needed to refill our drinks. One passenger, who will remain unnamed, filled her drink and came back to sit on the platform. CLICK. We realized we were locked out of the car; it was 5:00 a.m.
No cell phones, no one else is awake. Just us and our cocktails. We ring the bell, but no one wakes up to help us. We realize we have to wait for another two hours before the train will stop in Connersville, IN. We realized we need to go into "Cocktail Conservation Mode" to get us through this.
As we approach Connersville, we have another scare - will there be any passengers to make the train stop? If not, we realize we might have to sleep on the platform until we get to Indianapolis, which is another hour and a half. Luckily, around 6"15 a.m, the train stops and Danny jumps off the platform, walks up several cars forward to get on the train (and explain to the conductor what just happened- he laughed), then walk back through all the trains to get back to Chapel Hill. Thank goodness the front end door was unlocked. Danny comes back through Chapel Hill and unlocks the back door to free unnamed person. Bed Time! And up at 10 am to begin our next adventure!

The Chapel Hill Railcar
To get an idea of how the group will be traveling, we have included a photo of the Chapel Hill Railcar.
The Chapel Hill has been completely refurbished to its original 1920s condition. The car still maintains its deep history and tradition of railway travel with authentic touches, such as the deep mahogany wood interior, original brass hardware and vintage railroad china and silver.
